Simple Night Routine for Deep Sleep

Have you ever found yourself minutes away from your bedtime rushing to finish an email, movie, or task. Then quickly brushing your teeth pulling off your close and lying in be hoping that sleep instantly and spontaneously catches you so that you can achieve the pre determined number of hours of sleep? If yes then you probably know this doesn’t work chances are you end of up staring at the ceiling frustrated because the potential sleep time is ticking away. Start with the why. Its important for sleep hygiene to prepare for sleep. Our bodies are not computers that simple power down with the flick of a button. They require time to slowly unwind, calm the brain and slow down the body. Like anything the more prepared you are the deeper the experience.

Start early, about 1 - 0.5 HRS prior to the time you desire to be asleep. Here are 3 Simple Steps to serve as a blue print for creating your own power down ritual for deep sleep.



1 —

SET THE MOOD

Try setting an alarm on your phone to remind you that its time to start your night time routine. The best way to start moving the mind and body toward sleep is to shut off distractions. For most of us that will including turning off the tv, shutting the laptop, and putting away our smart phones. Maybe dim the lights or light a candle to continue creating the environment for sleep. All of these serve as cues to let your mind, the time to sleep is near. Oh what joy! Creating the right environment may also involve sound buffers, sleep noise machines, or black out curtains.

MAKE IT RELAXING

This will depend on your unique needs. Everyone is different a motivational self help book is how I personally start to relax my mind. The shuts off the never ending chatter that tends to go on in my mind. It always leaves me hopeful about the person I could become. This will look different for everyone. Maybe for you its stretching, taking a long walk, or meditation.
